Up Close and Personal with Rock Candy Funk Party

Debbie Tell-All:
Up Close and Personal with Rock Candy Funk Party

Hey Tommy! Have you listened to We Want Groove? What do you think about the critics’ comment, “one of the “Top 10” albums of the year?”

Yeah. It's awesome! One fan posted,“...was borderline supernatural. Some of the sounds Joe was making with his guitar last night is something entirely new and different than anything I have ever heard. It was music from another planet...alien. I almost thought I was in a strange dream.”

Folks, I hope you had a good laugh with Debbie Tell-All. I’m here to spread the good word and have some fun along the way.

If you have not heard, my favorite guitarist, Joe Bonamassa, joined the southern California group Rock Candy Funk Party. It’s another side project and step away from his customary blues-rock format.

RCFP includes world renown talent Tal Bergman on drums, Ron De Jesus on lead guitar (alongside Joe), Mike Merritt on bass and Renato Neto on keyboards.
The band came to be last summer, after jamming together in a series of one-off gigs at the infamous ‘The Baked Potato.” They had so much fun, the guys decided to record an album of classic ‘70s/’80s funk-jazz tunes, for the sheer joy of making music. Hence, the debut CD, We Want Groove.

A celebratory CD release party was held January 23 and 24, 2013. From all accounts, it was a magical night. One fan’s post read, "The best 'Spud' show ever." Another onlooker remarked, "I was at both nights, both sets. Mind blowing talent run amok. Sounds and textures of funky jazz with bits of rock and fusion tossed in...They played with joy, a glance, a smile, a look and the lead changed hands with never a miss..."

And though I could not fly to California (like some fans from New Jersey, Maryland, Denver, and Ohio) I reviewed the nine tracks (plus one bonus) from the comforts of my home. You can read that write up via this link.

What’s most wonderful, these events were captured on video. We owe a debt of gratitude to five “Joe fans” living in southern California, as each person filmed the performances from various angles, in an ongoing effort to bring this music to the public’s eye.

I’ve compiled the video set list ofWe Want Groove, track by track. I hope you have a powerful set of speakers and a large computer screen because this is Up Close and Personal.
